The Vibrams are taking over! If you have them - do you like them? And if you don't have a pair, do you want one?
How many rounds can you do in 15 mins of:
25 Double Unders
10 Burpees
1 Rope Climb 15'

Put box jumps in that workout instead of Burpees & it would be called "Sean B's Dream WoD"
As far as my Vibrams - I like them a bunch. I've been using them whenever possible to wod in. Even thought of using them to back squat heavy in but that didn't work. Going to use my regular Onitsuka Tigers tomorrow to climb though - last time I climbed in Vibrams during the Double Up wod - that wasn't too pleasant!
I'd rather wear them than not wear them (regardless of what my calves think).
I bought the Vibrams Tuesday afternoon and went for a light twenty minute jog Tuesday night to try them out and break them in. I loved the way they felt on grass and dirt but running on pavement wasn't as comfortable as running in the Tigers. I'm sure with a little more time to adapt the pavement runs will be fine, but they were awesome running on grass.
Worked out at Crossfit 801 tonight. The box is small (about the size of our old box) but the people there are great. Miranda was awesome and was cheering me on the whole WOD (along with her own clients). I think she snapped a few pics of me too. Class was about 15 deep or so. The folks there (trainers and trainees) were all really great and were more than open to me coming back tomorrow. I guess it's the "Mike Evo" that got put on the board that was cool. Before the WOD during the teaching and technique part she made sure to introduce me to the entire group and explain that I'm from a box in Florida and I'm just visiting. That was pretty cool too.
Tonights WOD was:
Clean & Jerk 3-3-3-3 (165# success - 175# FAIL).
then...
4 rounds for time of
-Clean and Jerk 135# x 5 reps
-Box Jump x 12 (i modified with step ups for the knees)
I think 7:47 was my time. I stepped to a box higher than I'm used to and that took a lot of work. Overall, there were some pretty cool people there and I look forward to stopping back in with them for a few WOD's during my trip. I still want to hit some of the other boxes though while I'm out here.
Mike P from Salt Lake City... OUT
I was sold on the Vibrams after watching the "Barefoot Professor" video. I went to Travel Country and bought the Sprint style. They're kind of like Maryjanes with the strap. LOL... Love them so much I don't want to take them off. Yes, my calves are pretty sore. Bummed I can't wear them today b/c of the rope climb. Good thing I read your post Leo.

Good day.
since we've been posting a lot of food and nutrition based content lately I figured I would throw something in, here you go - the end of humanity as we know it. Not sure if I agree with the milk involvement though. If this thing can get bacon from the table to my mouth without my lifting a finger, well, I'll take two...
Nice Ron!
5 Rounds + 25 DUs. Got 1 full rope climb and half another before subbing. Liking that assisted MU gadget. Still can just barely walk though...
13 Rounds + 25 SUs + 2 burpees -- good to be jump roping again and no pain (whoo!).
7 rounds Rx
8 Rounds + 25 DU + 7 Burpees.
Yup, I would have rather done box jumps...freakin burpees.
got my first legit, all the way to the floor HSPU!!! got 4 to be exact.
very happy with my progress in the last 2 months, it's been amazing.
tonight's wod: got 5 rounds + 25 DU + 10 burpees. Only missed the last rope climb cause I was laying on the floor like a baby for over a min when Leo told to get up and do another round. I could've had it!! another day :)
10 rounds rx
9 Rounds (subbed 50 single-unders for 25 double-unders)
I tried for 10 minutes to get a double-under, and I just couldn't do it, my right calve is destroyed...really sucks because I have worked pretty hard on double-unders ever since Iron Curtain...oh well, got my first (and 2nd) straight arm muscle-ups tonight...
5 rounds RX - Barely got the last rope climb in.
Ron that video is hilarious...
8 Rounds + 50 SU
Still cant quite get the DU's figured out but soon enough Im sure!
9 Rounds + 1 bathroom break Rx
Very much regretted the wine and cookies
I'm not a member at CF Evolution, but I came once for gymnastics/tumbling seminar last year and I check your site every once in while (since it has great material :D). I have a pair of Vibrams and I thought I'd share my comments too.
I come from a running background before crossfit. Cross country and track in highschool then just "for fun" in the interim before crossfit. All of that time was spent running in squishy shoes like Nike Pegasus, or Asics 2150 or the like. After visiting CF Evolution I also hopped on the Onitsuka Tiger bandwagon for my general crossfit shoe, although I still preferred to run in my squishy shoes. Even after attending a POSE clinic, practicing drills, and attempting to keep the POSE form while running in the squishy shoes...form didn't always stay since it was so easy to just fall back into bad habits.
I'd been eying the Vibrams online for some time, read "Born to Run", got amped about the footwear, and finally made the decision to try some on in a store early fall of last year. After hearing so many horror stories about calf pain from long runs I had a break in period, just starting with half a mile and working up to 4 miles (on hardpacked dirt trails with some oak leaves and pine needles and a few roots to keep in interesting) over the course of a month and a half to get my legs used to them.
After the first run in them I was immediately hooked. That "POSE" gait that is so much of a pain in the @$$ to think about while running in squishy shoes just comes natural in the Vibrams. A hip twinge that I didn't even realize I had from the squishy shoes wasn't present at all during my Vibram runs. All around I felt better and ran just as fast (per timed runs) in the Vibrams after the break in period. I'd highly recommend these shoes to anyone considering them for running, although if you do a road race in them just heed the warnings out there: running race pace all on asphalt/concrete isn't quite the same as the same distance/pace on trail...and your calves will let you know.
